Tipping is not generally expected in mainland China. Although bellboys and staff may have become used to the international traveler giving small tips in large hotels, it is not expected or required. But tipping to tour guide and driver in recognition of their good serivce is enormously appreciated. Most larger hotels and some restaurants charge a service fee, e.g. 15%, so any guilt about not leaving a tip can be assuaged with this outrageous fee.
Our online quotaton does not include tipping as it is a personal matter. If you don't know what the proper amount for tipping would be, the following standard is for your reference.
For group of 1- 4 passengers, recommend tipping policy is:
About USD 5 per day (per tourist) for tour guide and, USD 2 per day (per toursit) for driver is standard. Of course, give more if you're feeling generous, but if you find a genuine reason not to tip, don't.
For group of 5 passengers and above, recommend tipping policy is:
About USD 3 per day (per tourist) for guide and, USD 1 per day (per tourist) for driver is standard. Of course, give more if you're feeling generous, but if you find a genuine reason not to tip, don't.
